Renter's Insurance
Protecting Your Stay and Your Belongings
At Deschutes Homebase, we manage fully furnished homes designed to provide a comfortable, move-in-ready living experience. While the home itself, furnishings, and property structure are insured by the property owner, that insurance does not cover a resident’s personal belongings, liability, or temporary living expenses in the event of an unexpected loss.
For this reason, renter’s insurance is required for all residents and is one of the most affordable ways to protect yourself during your stay.
Why Renter’s Insurance Matters
Protection for Your Personal Belongings
Even in a fully furnished rental, residents typically bring personal items such as clothing, electronics, bicycles, sporting equipment, jewelry, work equipment, and other valuables. Renter’s insurance helps cover the cost of replacing these items in the event of covered losses such as fire, theft, smoke damage, or certain water-related incidents.
Personal Liability Coverage
Liability coverage is one of the most important parts of a renter’s insurance policy. If a guest is injured during your stay, or if accidental damage occurs due to something such as a kitchen fire, overflowing sink, or other incident, liability coverage can help cover legal expenses and damages.
Additional Living Expenses
If the home becomes temporarily uninhabitable due to a covered event, renter’s insurance may help pay for hotel accommodations, temporary housing, meals, and related living expenses while repairs are completed.
How to Obtain Renter’s Insurance
1. Request Multiple Quotes
Many residents choose to obtain coverage through the same provider that handles their auto insurance, as bundled policies often provide discounts. We recommend comparing quotes from several providers such as State Farm, GEICO, and Allstate. A good local option is with an agent we have a relationship with at Country Financial.
2. Choose Appropriate Coverage
Select a personal property coverage amount that fits the value of your belongings. Liability coverage must meet the minimum requirement outlined in your lease agreement, typically at least $100,000 in liability protection.
3. Select Your Deductible
Your deductible is the amount you would pay out of pocket before insurance coverage applies. Higher deductibles generally lower your monthly premium.
4. Provide Proof of Insurance
After purchasing your policy, please provide a copy of the Declaration Page showing:
- Resident name(s)
- Rental property address
- Coverage dates
- Liability coverage amount
Proof of coverage should be emailed directly to our office.
